Led Cassidy

So, I had this weird dream where David Cassidy is strutting across a stage, fronting for Led Zeppelin while they are jamming The Lemon Song. Weirder still is that David is doing one of his stock moves from a Partridge Family performance, and the whole thing seems to fit. I have come to understand that dreams have a symbolic logic that are generally impenetrable, except for the few who are initiated into the mysteries of the subconscious; even so, I am going to take a stab at its meaning.

A few years ago a couple of movies came out about The Partridge Family. In one of these movies there was a subplot about the conflict between David’ desire to be a genuine musician and bona fide rockstar, and his becoming a victim of the teen-idol-making machine such that he became an icon of saccharin rock. The result of this conflict was that he increasingly became disillusioned and embittered by his own fame. Obviously, the movie left an impression upon me, as I am recounting it for you in this post, and I am thinking that this impression has made its way into my subconscious where Mr. Cassidy functions as a symbol for lost dreams and aspirations. In light of all this, I would say that my dream is about redemption, for in the landscape of my subconscious he has attained his dream and become the apotheosis of a rockstar: he has become the lead singer of the mighty Led Zeppelin.

In closing, I want to ask if anybody else sees other possibilities for what this could mean. After all, just because it’ my dream doesn’t mean that I should corner the market on its interpretation, and I would be interested in what fun stuff could be pulled out of this amalgam.

I’m just a little concerned that you are dreaming about David Cassidy. Certainly having him front Led Zeppelin makes things a bit better. I think you shouldn’t be concerned unless the dream continues on and you find yourslef the groupie in the front row who is called back stage after the concert. Then my friend it’s time to be afraid.

    Hey Tom,

Actually, for me, it really depends on what I was being asked to do backstage. I mean, if they somehow got hold of the fact that I play guitar and they wanted to jam with me, then that is all good. If, however, I am called backstage to fulfill anyone of those guys hedonistic pleasures, then they need to get their eyes checked. Now, if you are hinting at gay subtext (or overt text for that matter) then, even though I will admit that David Cassidy is good looking, particularly back in the day, I still don’t think that I could be compelled, even in my dreams, to switch my orientation. Of course, you did say groupie, and if that was the case, then I guess I would be afraid, very afraid!

This actually makes more sense now that I’ve heard Lefty’s podcast. Can’t explain it, but it somehow makes sense.
