"...one of those blessed moments when you get out of your normal frame of reference"?

Just exactly what does THAT mean?

Is that some veiled reference to a freaky-deeky psychedelic drug experience with mescaline, psilocybin, MDMA or LSD?

Normal is good. The opposite is abnormal.

Toward greater clarity, may I suggest instead the adjective"typical"? It stems etymologically from the Greek "typikos," which means "equivalent to."

Psychological use of the word "normal" (and you did write about one's "normal frame of reference") would mean "free from any mental disorder - sane."

So now the question arises: Were you on drugs when you wrote that?

However, in the case where I consider the point you were hoping to make - or at least are/were attempting to suggest; that being considering things from the perspective of another - I recollect writing a poem about a small puddle of water through which I tromped one day while walking to school.

Wearing my mountain hiking boots as I typically did (yup... I was cool before it was cool), I walked to school because we lived nearby, and it happened to have rained early in the morning, before daybreak that day.

Upon being seated at my desk, I wrote a little poem about the puddle wondering about its microscopic contents. I do not recollect all of the poem, save this concluding passage - "where other tiny worlds are in upheaval."

-[As] iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens the wits of another. Proverbs 27:17 GWT-

Simon - Since I have written this little poem I have thought about that scene from American Beauty, but it wasn't a conscious source when I wrote it. Unconsciously, however, who is to say. Whatever the case, when I saw the bag moving it was really like looking at a living thing. It was one of those blessed moments when you get out of your normal frame of reference.
